Creation

By Scott Schuleit

A word was spoken, a single word sent thundering into the nameless void, resounding deep within a region of utter nothingness, of emptiness, and the word became as a seed—a seed of light, luminous and seething with creative energy, on the verge of bursting into great beauty…trembling…before exploding with terrific force, releasing a huge wave—a vast, ring-like wave—rumbling with the sound of a million thunders as it raced through the void…. This wave, rather than destroying, was creating, its force shooting far, far faster than the speed of light, summoning up planets, comets, nebulae, supernovae and galaxies from out of the barren womb of nonexistence, the nothingness becoming transformed as this wave of tremendous force unfurled, commanding the heavens and the earth to emerge—conjuring up vast miracles of matter, fantastic forms, worlds upon worlds, flourishing with color, beauty and harmony….

Along with the conception of the physical elements and their various combinations, two other aspects of the natural realm had arisen, created, in part, to help in ordering and furnishing it, and these were space—that place, that extension in three dimensions wherein diverse elements reside and various actions occur—and time, which could be described as the measurable movement of consecutive moments.

Amidst the inception of these non-sentient aspects of creation, millions and millions of specks—like motes whirling away in a summer wind—were released from the explosion, each speck expanding…surging into shape…sculpting into form, some of these becoming angels, powerful beings with richly-feathered pinions and flawless, radiant faces…. Several other kinds of spiritual beings were birthed as well; among these were the Cherubim with their mighty, rushing wings, creatures created, in part, to serve as the chariot for the Lord to ride in. Another kind of being were the Seraphim; incredible six-winged creatures, who used two wings to cover their eyes from the great glory of God, and two as a covering for their feet, and the other two for flying. Beings known as the Living Creatures were also created, creatures fearsome and wonderfully strange, full of eyes in front and behind….

These bedazzling, magnificent beings, previously adrift while being swiftly fashioned into fullness, now all flew—millions upon millions strong—into a perfect formation before the triune God, their eyes amazed, watching as this first phase of creation was being finished, looking on in wonder at the greatness of such a sight, the magnitude of it, overwhelmed with awe as trillions of worlds simmered with creative ferment, still in process, the foundation of the earth congealing, and suddenly, spontaneously, as they watched—in complete unison—they shouted for joy! The sound exploded through heaven…. The new, yet quickly growing awareness that these creatures held regarding God's fathomless magnificence increased greatly as they tried to take in the sight of the astonishing beauty and abundance—the immeasurable splendor of the celestial and terrestrial regions…. The hosts of heaven were like children trying to take in the richness of a sunset or the most dazzling display of fireworks, and in response, after their shout, they began to worship God, and though each voice held its own uniqueness, they all blended into a perfect song regarding the greatness, holiness and splendor of their Creator—of the greatness of the One who reigns from everlasting to everlasting….
